Unusual Visitor to Kingston StationAMTK 46 ('Connection America for 50 Years' P42DC) sits on an eastbound extra stopped at Kingston Station about 4;15 this afternoon. I heard an air horn and the rumbling of the diesel too early for it to be westbound 175. A photographer who knew the train was coming and had a better position on the track 1 platform told me the extra was testing a cab signal software upgrade before it can be applied to the P42 fleet. Most of the reports on HeritageUnits.com called this a geometry extra, one reporter called it a PTC extra; the latter seems a bit closer to the mark, if my informant was correct. Train was to terminate in Boston; 2nd car in 3 car consist is a sleeper. I do not know when they start tomorrow and where they will be headed.
