Meredith Yard

Once a modestly sized freight yard, Meredith Yard serves as home base for the busy Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad.

You're looking at the current power lineup, though two of the locos are not in their usual places. P&L 1012 (SW1000, built 1970 for BN) is on the main to the left, this time of year powers the Winni Scenic's signature "Fall Foliage Special" to the Common Man Inn in Plymouth and back..

P&L 1590 (SW1001, built 1973 for the Reading) was stored on the team track, and usually powers the "Local", the Meredith, Weirs Beach, and Lakeport (Paugus) trains this time of year. 1590 was removed from service after a mechanical issue on Friday the 13th of all days. 1590 has since been repaired and returned to service.

This brings the GP7, P&L 302, front and center on the station track, and in service. In summers, 302 is usually stashed across Ladd Hill Road with the "Foliage Budds". In the fall the 302 resides on the team track where the 1590 is. 302 is stored serviceable and ready to go when needed as backup power. For the past three days, P&L 302 powered the "Local". Last time 302 was in revenue service was October 2018, though 302 was used for a non-revenue run in May of 2021, and one rare move each in 2019, and 2020..

To see this 1950 built GP7 in action was certainly a treat.
