MBTA "Wire" train at North Leominster

MBTA has let a contract to McCourt Construction to install buried fiber optic cabling to improve signal resiliency on the New Hampshire Main Line, Fitchburg Main Line, and Wildcat commuter rail lines. Per the contract, the new fiber optic system will incorporate one 96-strand cable on each line for MBTA's exclusive use for vital systems, with an option for one 288-strand cable on each line for MBTA to lease to commercial entities in the future. Nice looking power sporting D&RGW inspired livery.

Thanks for capturing this operation and its interesting motive power from Precision Locomotive. Leading is an ex-UP/MP engine classified as an MP20GP-3 a rebuild from Motive Power Industries of Boise. I wonder if this buried fiber optic will eliminate all lineside surface cabling.
