Ayer Junction, Formerly Groton Junction

Following Bruce MacDonald's lead in posting an ancient map of the railroad in Shirley, here is a map of the railroad scene in Ayer ca. 1872. Ayer was split out of Groton in 1871 and this map shows 3 independent railroads serving Ayer, the Fitchburg, the Worcester and Nashua and the Stony Brook. Note that the depot was a union station with a train shed for the Fitchburg and a platform for the W&N. There was also a small turntable there. The Peterboro and Shirley (to Greenville) was already folded into the Fitchburg.

Thank you for your contribution Ron, hadn't gotten around to it but was thinking about trying to find a map like this for Ayer.

Ron when do you think the west eye was added?

The West Wye is not shown on an 1893 map. I am guessing that it was added in the construction of Hill Yard. I posted a valuation map dated 1914 of that yard here on NERAIL.
