GMRC unveils a completely rebuilt RS-1 #401. It was purchased from Illinois Central & Gulf in 1976, but originally built for Illinois Terminal then sold to Gulf Mobile & Ohio. The rebuilding was under the direction of Peter L. Read, Chief Mechanical Officer.
