Sometimes gravity is your friend

On Friday 12/2/16, P&W's Gardner turn, WOGR/GRWO arrived at a pretty empty Gardner yard that had three loaded autoracks sitting on yard track 1 and a gon and covered hopper car fouling the east end of the yard (did Pan Am leave these cars here?), severely limiting P&W's drop-off/pick-up movements. But not to worry as P&W used the grade at Gardner to release the two cars' brakes and gently roll them out of the way. But then P&W did something very unusual - the crew backed their inbound train south out of the yard - I don't know when WOGR returned but it disappeared for at least an hour. Perhaps it had technical issues with an end of train locomotive?
