The first of the three commuter consists, which would lay over at Needham Junction, train 455 would complete its run at Needham Heights. It would then make a reverse deadhead move back to the Junction and position itself on the second track. There it became a connecting train, to reach Medfield and West Medway, for passengers on the following outbound. Having a road switcher, rather than an 0700, simplified the process.
