Photo of South Sudbury Industrial
South Sudbury Industrial

Back in 1989 a yard job out of Framingham still serviced the Framingham and Lowell branch as far north as South Sudbury. Looking south this photo shows the diamond with the former B&M Central Mass branch, long out of service. 13 years prior, a daily train from Readville to Lowell used to haul 75+ cars routienly. This was also the last place in the USA where one could have seen a pure FA-FB-FB-FA set in the early 70's. An empty center beam is seen on the west wye where Conrail serviced a lumber company just to the west of the diamond on the Central Mass.

Photographed by Vinnie Lanza, 1989.

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

This is amazing, this spot is a forest today, hiding everything. But the diamond is still there, hidden in the trees.
