Photo of Midway! Part VII
Midway! Part VII

This shot faces west toward the turntable at the Midway yard in Groton. In its heyday (between 1901 and 1921), Midway could accompany more than 2,000 cars and engines. It featured a 36-room hotel (strictly for railroad workers), a 20-stall roundhouse, and a coal tower large enough to service 4 engines at once. The Poquonock Depot, a cattle pen, switch towers and various other buildings also lived here.
