Trash on the TrainThis photo shows veteran railroader, Don Constantineau overlooking the debris that had been loaded onto the flat car by the City Year volunteers during the recent clean-up of the Newport Secondary track.
Don, who spent 20+ years with the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, is now adding to the enjoyment of his retirement by volunteering on the Old Colony & Newport Railway.
The 'yield' for the day was two flat car loads of debris including 14 shopping carts, two mattresses, and a couple of dozen loaded garbage bags.
The flat car was met by the City of Newport workers at a transfer point under the Pell Bridge. The load was loaded onto city trucks and hauled to the local recycling station.
This was the latest in a series of environmental clean-up projects that have been initiated and coordinated by the Old Colony & Newport Railway volunteers in their efforts to keep the Newport Secondary Track alive and functioning.
