Photo of Broadway Station.
Broadway Station.

A close-up view of a ceramic tile station sign at Broadway Station, South Boston. The sign dates from 1917, when the Dorchester Tunnel had reached West Broadway from South Station Under Station. At the same time, a short-lived trolley station was situated between the rapid transit station and street level known as "Lower Broadway". It survived only two years, having been discontinued in 1919. It is on the list for a future archaeological expedition !

Photographed by Paul Joyce, 1980.
