Hell Gate Bridge

The Pennsylvania and New Haven Railroads built the majestic span in the early part of the 20th Century. The sturdy structure is still in place over the East River. New York City is about five miles ahead.
Some distances: it is 229 miles from Boston to New York. It is 156.4 miles from Boston to New Haven, and another 55 miles from New Haven to Shell Interlocking. 19 miles lay between Shell and the Big Apple.

Photographed by Leo King, December 4, 2001.
Added to the photo archive by Leo King, May 8, 2004.
