In the mid-1950s, the East Providence, R.I. daily oil drag had been combined with a general freight job. Work and lineside businesses were beginning to diminish as trucks replaced boxcars. Even so, the New Haven's daily freight train from Six Bridges yard to East Providence averaged 30 to 40 cars. Double-tracked East Side Tunnel was still a revenue-producing branch line. The block operator at SS-151, at the junction of the branch and main line track 4 at Union Station in Providence, has lined the switch to send the freight over a double-slip switch. Main line 4 is about one-quarter mile ahead of the train.
