John Quincy Adams, Daniel Webster... Call it the John Quincy Adams. These trains did one thing: carried people from one place to another on the NYNH&H between New York and Boston. March 25, 1957 was a Monday when the eastbound Adams made a station stop in Providence. It was a direct descendent of the Spanish Talgo trials three years earlier, and was built as a joint venture of Fairbanks-Morse and American Car & Foundry. The 1,000 hp engines 3100 and 3101 were delivered in 1957.One year earlier, the 3000 and 3001 held the stage, but they were built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton with Pullman supplying the coaches. 3100 has arrived on track 4 in Providence. Its conductor is walking up to the head-end to deliver a message. That track in the foreground is the branch going to East Providence via East Side Tunnel.
