Old Colony & Newport Railway - Track CleanupThis photo shows the Rhode Island City Year volunteers working with Maria Broadbent, Supervisor to the City of Newport, RI - Clean City Program on a track clean up project on the Newport Secondary track.
These determined volunteers, [front to back] Juan Cotto, Matt Ryan, Justin Cummings, and John Dickerson, unable to lift this tire onto the flatcar, rolled it down the track to the next crossing where it was loaded onto a City of Newport Public Works truck and sent to a recycling station.
This was another in a series of cooperative clean-up projects that have been initiated and coordinated by the Old Colony & Newport Railway volunteers in their efforts to keep the Newport Secondary Track alive and functioning.
The OCNRR engineer for the day was Don "Shag" Constantineau. Don, who travels from Wrentham, Ma, actually worked on this track during his career with the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad. Conductor for the day was Donald Elbert.
