Midway! Part VIII

This wall marks the location where an ash pit once was in the Midway yard in Groton, CT. Once a locomotive was finished with their load of fuel, they could unload their ash in this 1,000 +/- foot ash pit. Midway was an absolute huge freight yard in its time, but sadly it did not survive. A park, warehouse (used by Amtrak), and trees have all but erased this old giant, but for some it will never be forgotten.
