Former Location of the 1870's "Armstrong" turntable, Belfast, ME July, 2005For 125 years, the B&ML's manpowered "Armstrong" turntable occupied this piece of ground in front of the two bay enginehouse (left) in the railroad's main yard in Belfast, ME. In June, 2005, however, this venerable turntable was removed and the pit filled in when the B&ML defaulted on its lease of the yard and was evicted by the City of Belfast. RIP (Update: The enginehouse was demolished on June 21, 2011. Nine images of its demolition posted at the time it happened are now available in the BML archive on this site.)
