Two views of the Turner Center Creamery on the B&ML at Unity, ME -- 1947 & 2005These two views of the B&MLRR at Unity, ME, were taken from the same spot 58 years apart. The upper image shows B&ML #19 (exBAR #54), a 1901 Manchester 4-6-0 (Builder's #1782) acquired from the Bangor & Aroostook RR on January 6, 1940, picking up a refrigerated creamery car with a bulk milk shipment from the Turner Center Creamery just East of the B&ML's Unity station. The unusual horizontal “Railroad Crossing” sign with a cast iron “pagoda” top was unique to the Maine Central and B&ML grade crossings until the 1960’s. The lower image shows the same structure, now being used as an office building, in July, 2005. Unfortunately, there is currently no freight or passenger service running on this venerable135 year old line. The upper photograph, taken in 1947 by Victor Rawstron, was restored by Bruce C. Cooper (DigitalImageServices.com) who also took the lower photograph in July, 2005.
