At the end of the B&ML's 33 mile grade inland from Belfast the line crosses the Sabasticook River in Burnham, ME, over the road's longest bridge. Just beyond the west end of the bridge the line splits in a wye leading to the B&ML's inland terminus at Burnham Junction. There its tracks meet those of the Maine Central's Portland to Bangor main line. For almost 90 years (1871-1960) passengers and mail changed trains here at the station jointly operated by the two roads, and for 135 years rail freight to and from communities throughout Waldo County was passed between the lines on the yard's exchange tracks. Looking west from the bridge the "Waterville" wye curves off to the left and the "Bangor" wye to the right.
