Main Line and East Boston Tunnel Cars in Maine.

Two types of Boston Elevated Railway equipment in their active retirement at the Seashore Trolley Museum: (left to right) a 1928 Main Line Number 10 Wason car and a 1923 East Boston Tunnel Number 1 Pullman car. Both types were of compact design and not built to the larger standard of the Cambridge/Dorchester cars. In spite of the fact that the Pullman's were built five years before the Wason's, the Pullman's remained active on the system fifteen years later than the Wason's, retiring in 1980. The Wason's could be caught in rush hour service up until 1965. Trolley poles have been added to the Wason for museum overhead. The Pullmans were equipped with a pantograph on even-numbered cars and ran with both third rail and catenary, depending on whether they were in the subway or outside.
