September and the Summer of 2002 had been a dry one in Southern New England. Places along the Connecticut River that hadn't been above water in years were plentiful, including the vicinity of Amtrak's Springfield-New Haven line. On the back of AMT #460, Connecticut Southern's CSO-1 was northbound for West Springfield, MA with its manifest from Cedar Hill in New Haven, CT. Two weeks later, nearly seven inches of rain took care of this spot!

Photographed by Jeff Bray, September, 2002.
