ST Local RJ-1 passes a monument marking the location of the second engagement of the Revolutionary War Battle of Bennington. The Battle of Bennington was a key part of the American victory in the Battle of Saratoga--the turning point of the war. British General John Burgoyne sent a detachment with the intention of getting supplies at Bennington, VT, however the detachment was stopped by American militia under General John Stark in engagements here at Walloomsac, NY. Due to the battle's proximity to Bennington, VT, it became known as the Battle of Bennington.
