Most of October 29, 2016 had been free of precipitation even with heavy cloud cover. Central Maine & Quebec's Searsport turn had finished switching businesses in Searsport just minutes before a steady light rain found the area along the Penobscot River. Back up at MP16 in Frankfort, Maine, B23-7 2003 led the afternoon leg over West Hill Road during the crew's return to Hermon and Bangor.
