P&L 9158 - A Budd RDC Revival..

Lincoln NH may be known for many things, great skiing at Loon Mountain, restaurants, shopping, the west end of the Kancamagus Highway, a true ski town.. But Lincoln has one statistic that is easily overlooked, the Lincoln NH zipcode is home to five out of twelve late model 1962 Budd RDC-1's that were orignally built for the Reading RR. These five Budds were sold to the MBTA in the 80's and retired by the end of the decade. None of these five got the "Boise Budd" rebuild.

#9158 was built in November 1962, it languished for several decades in storage until the restoration began in the winter of 2023. Out went the coach seats, in came the tables and chairs. 9158's self-propelled days are long gone. The exterior has been cleaned up and painted, the interior underwent a total makeover.

#9158 should eventually join in-service former Reading Budd RDC-1's, coaches 9151, 9154, and table car 9159. #9161 remains stored and out-of-service.

These five RDC-1's built in November and December 1962, were the end of an era.
