Thames

Thames River Movable Bridge was completed in 1914 for the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, but like most of the bridges, movable or otherwise, it was nearing the end of its serviceable life in 2001. Amtrak has managed to upgrade it as required, along with the other moving decks between Mystic River, Conn., and the Connecticut River, all in the Nutmeg State. West of New Haven, Metro-North operates five movable spans. Thames is the second longest on Amtrak property in New England.
