The CoachThis photo shows the Old Colony & Newport Railway coach during a charter run. The Coach - was built in 1904 in the Boston & Maine Shops in Laconia for the Boston & Maine Railroad.
It would have operated on the Boston & Maine from Boston to Concord, Boston to Portland Maine and also on lines North of Boston. It had a short life, as wooden coaches were obsolete around 1910, railroads were starting to build steel coaches that would be less maintenance and more durable.
OCNRR acquired it in 1980 from the Boston & Maine railroad. It had been stored at the B&M shops in North Bellrica.
These tourists, a group of railfans from the mid-west, are listening to Conductor Don Elbert's narrative re: the history of the OCNRR and the history of the Narragansett Bay.
These same narratives are given on the Sunday runs. OCNRR leaves the Newport Depot at 11:45 and 1:45 for its 80 minute round trips along the Narragansett Bay.
