3713 AT PORTLAND FOR THE LAST TIME

Boston & Maine Pacific 3713 is ready to make her last run from Portland to Boston. The B&M/MEC Union Station's train shed covers the end of the long train. My round trip fare was $4.75. Notice the steam pipe on the right side of her smokebox. It connected to a snow conveyor/snow melter piece of equipment -- 3713 really had no other purpose at this time since she was not suitable for commuter trains, the only work for steam as the era ended on the B&M. The New Haven and Canadian National were two other railroads that I know used snow conveyor-melters.
